Laser diodes are close to 100% energy-efficient and hold a tight, sharp line over a longer distance — one laser unit can often cover ground that would need several LED units wired together. LED line projectors use diffused light, which makes a wider, softer line and is generally gentler on the eyes up close, but needs meaningfully more wattage to match a laser line's reach.
